Resolution weary?
Lose weight. Get fit. Make more money.
It does not inspire action.
Inspiration is what we should be after – not motivation…even the word motivation sounds like you have to push yourself.
Inspiration however is what propels you out of bed in the morning into action. So how do we get inspired?
Planning.
I use a technique which is outlined in the Prosci change management methodology called the 4 Ps. The key is the P which represents Purpose – why are we changing. This is where our inspiration can bloom from.
So often when we set our goals for the year we completely forget about why we are doing them in the first place. That is when we drop off on effort and fail. Our purpose gives us the big picture and if we are falling down in some areas of meeting the goal we tend to automatically aim to seek a solution…a tweak to what we are doing so we can achieve it.
That’s inspiration.
Choose one thing that you would like to change in the coming 3, 6 or 12 months and set about writing down why you truly want to change, plan the detail and set about achieving it.
Do it with purpose!
